Erica Brown is a strategic nonprofit leader with a 25-year track record in the water sector, currently serving as Director of Administration at Fairfax Water in Virginia. Recognizing that it's the people in organizations who drive necessary change, she leverages robust interpersonal skills, personnel management expertise, and tactical planning abilities, to achieve organizational objectives and ensure sustained success. Her comprehensive skill set extends to program management and strategic initiatives, where she has made significant contributions. Erica possesses in-depth knowledge of policies, science, and key stakeholders relevant to sustaining water utility adaptive management. Her expertise covers a range of critical areas, including regulatory issues, climate adaptation and mitigation, resilience, homeland security, sustainability, environmental justice, and effective utility management.
Previously, as Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer at the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, Erica developed the association's climate program, focusing on mobilizing knowledge and best practice around water utility climate adaptation across the membership and serving as a facilitator and advisor for the Water Utility Climate Alliance. She also engaged with U.S. federal agencies on climate and other policy issues affecting water utilities by developing comments on policies and rulemakings and cultivating and maintaining strong strategic relationships with policymakers, scientists and other nonprofit partners. Erica organized and co-developed the program for the first water utility-focused international forum on climate change adaptation in the U.S. in 2010, and the second International Water and Climate Forum in 2015.
