Orestes Morfín

Senior Expert, Water Resources and Infrastructure Risk Management

Orestes Morfín is a water resources/water quality systems modeler with 21 years of experience. His current responsibilities include water operations and water balance modelling, development of programs for the augmentation, optimization and diversification of water resources, binational water management, and legal support concerning water quality issues. He has experience working on a variety of projects in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Brazil modelling contaminant transport and loadings to surface water and pit lakes, advection/dispersion simulations, and treatment options. He has also been involved in a variety of projects involving the determination of chemical background in surface water, groundwater, and sediment, waste/source characterization, permitting, closure and remediation at mine sites, human health and environmental risk assessment, and passive treatment of mine-influenced water.

He also serves as Vice President of the Multi-State Salinity Coalition, an organization that advocates for the advancement of local and regional projects and programs associated with desalination and salinity management technologies, practices, funding, and implementation, and is a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.

Orestes received a master’s degree in hydrology from the University of Arizona College of Engineering and Mines in 2003 with a focus in water quality. He is fluent and/or conversant in several languages, including English, Spanish, Turkish, Portuguese, French and Greek.
